Are you having trouble losing the “Love Handles?” Some people think if you do a whole lot of crunches, they should disappear. Unfortunately, it takes more than that to budge this stubborn area.
There are 3 general areas necessary to concentrate on to get those love handles to cooperate.
The first area is a healthy diet. You will need this to build energy and burn fat. As with any fitness and health goal – nutrition and exercise are always the main ingredients to success. You really can’t have one, without the other and expect the results you want. Here are some tips for watching that diet.
Water-it is very important to get in lots of water. Drink at least three liters of water per day, which is about 100 ounces, which is close to a gallon. It might sound impossible, but you can do it!
Eat your fruits and veggies-just like mama always said. These help you feel full as they provide lots of fiber. They also provide lots of nutrition. Eat at least five servings of vegetables and fruits per day
LIMIT fried foods and cheese –everyone loves these items but they slow your body down.
LIMIT processed sugar – all that sweet junk we love to eat like cookies, candy, desserts has to be very limited.
Eliminate fatty red meat – only lean red meats 1-2 times weekly. This means those cheeseburgers and tacos we like are not waist-friendly.
The second area is Cardio-Vascular exercise. Cardio exercise increases your metabolism so you can lose weight more effectively. For men, the last weight to leave the body is what is stored around the middle. For women, the last is typically stored in the hips, buttocks and thigh regions.
Men and women should both do 20-45 minutes of cardio 4-5 times per week. Resistance training and calisthenics should be mixed in 2-3 times per week also.
The 3rd area is targeting the abdominal area. Here’s where the dreaded crunches come in! There are many exercises that target the love handles besides just the basic crunches. There are reverse crunches, advanced crunches (legs up in the air), scissors crunches, side crunches, and twisting exercises. Look on line a little for examples or ask someone at the gym if you don’t know how. With some dedication, you can lose the “Love Handles!”
